Deutsche Telekom, the parent company of T-Mobile, intends to mine Bitcoin.
The company has recently increased its blockchain engagement by forming partnerships with Polygon and Fetch.ai.
Deutsche Telekom, the largest telecommunications provider in Europe, plans to begin mining Bitcoin (BTC). Dirk Röder, the director of Web3 Infrastructure and Solutions at T-Systems MMS, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, made the announcement at the BTC Prague conference on June 15. The telecom company has been administering Bitcoin Lightning Network nodes and has been operating a Bitcoin node since 2023.
Röder declared: “Wearing a blouse with a Bitcoin image in pink, modeled after Deutsche Telekom’s emblem, we have been operating a Bitcoin node since 2023 and are also running Bitcoin Lightning nodes. With a heart full of […] pride, I would like to share a little secret with you: we will shortly participate in “digital monetary photosynthesis.”
Joe Nakamoto, a Bitcoin influencer, inquired of Röder, “So is T-Mobile mining Bitcoin?” Röder replied, “We will.”
The company’s involvement with blockchain technology continues to encompass networks other than Bitcoin. Deutsche Telekom is involved in crypto-related partnerships and investments across a variety of blockchain networks.
Deutsche Telekom has been an active participant in Web3 as a validator on the Polygon network since June 2023. The telecom behemoth, which is one of 100 validators, offers staking and validation services that support the platform’s proof-of-stake consensus mechanism. This function enables Deutsche Telekom to capitalize on new revenue sources in the blockchain industry and improves the network’s security.
Additionally, Deutsche Telekom and Fetch.ai, a decentralized artificial intelligence (AI) platform, collaborated in February to develop enterprise AI solutions. The telecommunications company is instrumental in the support of Fetch.ai’s AI-driven autonomous agents as a validator on the Fetch.ai blockchain. By implementing transactions, managing resources, and analyzing traffic flows, these autonomous agents provide services in digital identities, healthcare, automotive, and supply chain management.
Additionally, the organization has collaborated with numerous blockchain networks, including Polkadot, Celo, and Flow. Deutsche Telekom is directly investing in the tokens of these blockchains and is also operating relays on them.
