Ryan Selkis, the CEO of Messari, has issued an apology for his extremist and violent remarks on social media.
Ryan Selkis, the founder and CEO of Messari, a crypto research platform, has been the subject of controversy due to a sequence of extremist posts on Platform X (formerly Twitter).
The incendiary remarks were made in response to an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Selkis, who is renowned for his direct and provocative social media style, conveyed his vehement support for Trump and fury, which resulted in a series of violent and anti-immigrant comments.
He also stated that “the civil war for the country began today” and continued to interact with followers by making anti-immigrant remarks, including questioning one user whether they were a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident.
The posts immediately elicited a response from a variety of sources, including the criticism of prominent commentator Molly White, who observed that Messari’s director of engineering is on an H1-B visa.
Selkis issued an apology in which she acknowledged that she had taken matters too far in response to the significant public backlash.
“I apologize for my anger last weekend. I have observed President Trump in sufficient quantity to develop an affection for him and his selflessness. I became excessively emotional after witnessing the nearly fatal outcome of a decade of animosity.” Selkis wrote, “We will prevail through nonviolence, character, and fortitude.”
Selkis, despite his humility, reiterated his political stance and expressed his admiration for Trump, which has reinforced his status as a polarizing figure in the crypto community.
Selkis’ posts were not only noteworthy for their combative tone, but also for their apparent endorsement of anti-immigrant rhetoric and political violence. This is especially pertinent in light of the current polarized political climate in the United States.
Selkis’ suggestion that violence may be required to achieve unity, which evoked historical internal conflict in the country, made worse the situation.
His actions toward his followers, which included denigrating remarks regarding immigrants and recommendations for deportation, served to emphasize the gravity of his statements.
Furthermore, Selkis verbally attacked Vitalik Buterin, the creator of Ethereum, by referring to him as a “naive and useless political commentator.” This was in response to Buterin’s claim that the crypto community should not vote for a politician solely based on his “pro-crypto” stance, but rather should examine the party’s policies on digital privacy and encryption first.
Messari, a platform that is supported by prominent investment firms including Point72 Ventures, Morgan Creek Digital, Samsung Next, Galaxy, and Coinbase Ventures, is essential to the cryptocurrency industry, as it offers data and analytics on digital assets.
