Joe Biden, the Vice President of the United States, lauded the leadership of Nigerian President Bola Tinubu for his significant contribution to the successful release of Binance BNB/USD executive Tigran Gambaryan.
According to a statement released by the White House, President Biden and President Tinubu spoke over the phone on Tuesday. On humanitarian grounds, Vice President Biden expressed his gratitude to Tinubu for his efforts in winning the release of Gambaryan, a citizen of the United States and a former law enforcement officer.
In particular, Vice President Biden emphasized his appreciation for the collaboration in law enforcement, which included the recently formed Bilateral Liaison Group on Illicit Finance and Cryptocurrencies.
The gesture being made by Biden comes one week after the Nigerian government dismissed all allegations of money laundering against Gambaryan, an executive at Binance who had been detained since February. Because of administrative mistakes, his bail hearings and other court actions were frequently postponed at various points in time.
Gambaryan was heard asking for assistance in the Nigerian courtroom, and recordings that revealed a dramatic decline in his health appeared at the same time.
The case garnered a substantial amount of international attention, with conversations taking place between officials from the United States and Nigeria with the intention of obtaining Gambaryan’s release.
