The AI-organized Bing search results, which are currently in limited release, will include prominent links to external websites.

In May, Google debuted a new feature known as AI Overviews at the developer conference. This feature integrates AI-generated summaries into its search search results. Although the feature did not always function as intended, it was able to endure. Microsoft is currently introducing generative search features to Bing, following in the footsteps of Google.

Microsoft announced on Wednesday that Bing’s generative search generates a personalized and dynamic response to a user’s inquiry by integrating the capabilities of generative AI and large language models with the search results page. “This novel experience integrates the capabilities of large and minor language models with the foundation of Bing’s search results.”

On Thursday, OpenAI unveiled a preview of SearchGPT, which is also perceived as a direct challenge to Google’s dominance, significantly overshadowing its announcement. Google has a commanding 81% of the desktop search market share as of January 2024, while Bing has a modest 10.51%, according to Statista.

Microsoft underscored the importance of providing a search result that is both useful and personalized, stating, “It comprehends the search query, evaluates millions of sources of information, dynamically matches content, and produces search results in a new AI-generated layout to more effectively fulfill the user’s query.”

The new Bing search result page will display an AI-generated response that has been generated by models that have been trained on millions of datasets to provide relevant and precise results. Additionally, a “Document Index” will delve deeply into the subject matter and provide users with supplementary information that is pertinent to their search query.

Bing will also provide the source of these citations immediately following the AI-generated response. In the event that users require further information or wish to verify the information, these interactive links will direct them to the source.
