Cosmos Hub will get an upgrade to its Rho network today

The Rho upgrade intends to include a new “global fee” module to enhance the Cosmos network’s security.

The improvement will pave the way for the deployment of the Interchain Security system in the first quarter of 2023.

The Hub, the core chain of the Cosmos ecosystem, is preparing for the upcoming Rho network upgrade, which is scheduled to go live today at 8 p.m. EST, with a block height of 14,099,412.

The upgrade will include a number of enhancements to Cosmos’ testing infrastructure, as well as the installation of a software module known as the “global fee” module, which will enable transaction fees to be collected from users and dispersed internationally.

The objective is to increase the security of the Cosmos network by decreasing the likelihood of validators collaborating or misbehaving, according to the Cosmos core development team.

Cosmos, an ecosystem of over 200 blockchains, enables the creation of application-specific chains by developers. Tendermint consensus and the Cosmos software development kit are two of the backbone technologies used by the network to build up several chains like Kava, Osmosis, Injective, Thorchain, Evmos, and Canto. The Cosmos Hub and Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol are used to establish connections across blockchains.

With the introduction of Interchain Security in the first quarter of 2023, individual chains on Cosmos will be able to secure themselves using the same security validators that power Cosmos Hub, a hub for other blockchain networks that facilitates cross-chain communication and interoperability. Rho lays the basis for this upgrade.

During the network update, the Hub team informed users that there may be a brief period of downtime.
