Before users discovered the scheme and ceased purchasing, Drake’s X account was hijacked to promote a fraudulent Solana memecoin named “$ANITA,” resulting in a $5M trading volume.

A fraudulent Solana-based memecoin known as “$ANITA” was promoted on Saturday by a breach of Drake’s X account, which has a following of over 39 million. The fraud falsely claimed a partnership with Stake, Drake’s preferred crypto-betting platform, and capitalised on his animated “alter ego,” Anita Max Wynn. Before users identified the fraud and ceased engaging, these posts generated $5 million in trading volume.

A new high-profile breach targeting X accounts has occurred, and this incident is the latest in a series. The Block reports that the recent assaults on Cardi B and Doja Cat are indicative of an increasing trend of utilising celebrity platforms to promote crypto schemes.

The “$ANITA” coin, which was fraudulently linked to Drake’s X account, capitalised on the name of his Anita Max Wynn Tour to establish a fictional association with the rapper. The tour, which coincided with Drake’s return to Australia and New Zealand, lent credibility to the fraud, resulting in a significant number of adherents investing. Nevertheless, the posts were promptly removed following the fraud’s disclosure.

In the wake of the Cardano Foundation and other musicians, this breach is part of a broader trend that is targeting prominent accounts. Crypto schemes continue to exploit high-profile users, underscoring the necessity of solid account security in light of these incidents.
