Google users are now more interested in queries on AI than they were in Bitcoin and crypto in prior years, which is a big change.
Google users’ search choices have undergone a significant change, with the phrase “AI” now outranking “Bitcoin” and “crypto.” According to Google Trends data, this trend started picking up steam in November 2022, just around the time that OpenAI’s ChatGPT was released. An increasing gulf in search interest between the two groups is indicative of a worldwide preoccupation with AI that has surpassed that of the more established cryptocurrency-related search phrases.
Google Trends data shows that “AI” has just surpassed Bitcoin’s score of 22 in terms of global search interest, with a large score of 91. The trend toward “AI” searches surpassing “Bitcoin” and “crypto” searches began in August 2022, marking the beginning of this turn of events. An increasingly large chasm sprang up between AI and crypto-related phrases with the November 2022 release of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which was critical in propelling “AI” to the top of Google search results.
While 2021 and most of 2022 were bear markets for Bitcoin, the cryptocurrency made a strong comeback in 2023. At the time of publishing, the price of Bitcoin was $43,400, up 150% from its starting point of $16,900. El Salvador, Nigeria, the Netherlands, Brazil, and Switzerland stood out as having the highest levels of Bitcoin interest, according to Google Trends.
However, this past year has been a banner one for advancements in artificial intelligence. These days, there is a lot of discussion about AI, ranging from concerns that it will displace human workers in the workforce to the creation of new chatbots like GrokAI, ChatGPT, Google Bard, Meta AI, and Google Bard by tech tycoon Elon Musk. According to Google Trends, people in Vietnam, China, the Philippines, and Myanmar are very interested in artificial intelligence.
