As the XRP community rallied and spread the word, lawyer John Deaton notified his followers through his daughter’s account, pushing them to report the breach.
On June 4, after a sustained onslaught that lasted for days, the phone of pro-XRP attorney John Deaton was compromised.
The attorney representing over 76,000 XRP tokenholders in the case against Ripple and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) replied to the hacker’s tweet using the account he established, CryptoLaw. It has been made clear by CryptoLaw that the tweets did not come from Deaton, but from hackers, and action is being taken immediately to rectify the matter.
While the whole crypto world was sending birthday greetings to Deaton on his special day, he was hacked. The hackers’ tweets advocated using a cryptocurrency token, LAW, which has a negligible market valuation. The attorney has become well-respected in the crypto space for his doggedness in the face of regulatory enforcement actions taken by U.S. authorities.
Due to traders’ reliance on the advice of industry leaders, the spread of incorrect information and fraudulent financial data inside the crypto market presents a serious danger. Such behaviours endanger the market’s stability and give authorities more reason to approach the business cautiously.
Deaton proactively notified his followers about the breach using his daughter Jordan Deaton’s Twitter account. Deaton reported the hack to the community.
In response to Deaton’s tweet, several members of the XRP community tweeted to inform other users about the crisis. Osakar Arnarson, a Twitter user, issued a detailed guide that showed other users how to report the compromised account. Dozens of additional people replied, all of whom said they had reported the hack without any problems.
Unfortunately, Cointelegraph’s attempts to contact Jordan Deaton and CryptoLaw before publishing were unsuccessful.
