Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, has announced the imminent release of a Mini App store and in-app browser that will support Web3 by the end of July.
Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, has provided a detailed explanation of how the messaging app will introduce blockchain technology to “hundreds of millions of individuals” this year.
Durov declared on July 19 that the messaging application will introduce a Mini Apps store and an in-app browser with Web3 support by the conclusion of July.
The emergence of this initiative coincides with an increase in the popularity of Telegram Mini Apps (TMAs). TMAs are JavaScript-based applications that are lightweight and integrated into the Telegram application. Setup is effortless, and they are adaptable to a variety of applications.
Telegram recently disclosed that over 500 million users engage with mini-apps on a monthly basis to purchase products, access services, and play activities. The Notcoin tap-to-earn game’s success has resulted in a significant increase in the number of crypto-based games, particularly as a result of the platform’s integration with the TON blockchain.
Durov commended Hamster Kombat, an additional tap-to-earn game, for its rapid expansion earlier this month. In a span of three months, the game attracted 239 million users, with an average of 4-5 million users joining each day. Durov intends to maintain the momentum by designating Telegram as the “primary hub of [blockchain’s] societal transformation” in light of this accomplishment.
Nevertheless, Woody Lightyear, a crypto enthusiast on the social media platform X, expressed skepticism. He stated that the tap-to-earn trend may be merely another fad that will eventually vanish.
However, experts in the market are of the opinion that Durov’s strategy will substantially increase the adoption of Web3 by providing the technology to millions of users of the Web2 messaging app. Nevertheless, the increasing prominence of cryptocurrency may also attract unethical actors who seek to exploit the inexperienced. Slow Mist, a Web3 security platform, recently reported an increase in fraud activities that are directed at users of the TON blockchain network. This is particularly noteworthy.
Durov acknowledged this, proclaiming that public user accounts will now indicate the month and country of registration.
“Telegram will soon implement a feature that will enable public accounts to display the month of registration and their primary country of origin, similar to Instagram.” Additionally, we will permit organizations to create a decentralized marketplace for third-party verification by utilizing their mini apps to issue labels for channels.
