Ripple co-founder, Jed McCaleb and both Stellar are now investing their considerable wealth, derived from cryptocurrencies, into the domain of space exploration.
His latest venture, a recently founded company called Vast Space, aims to launch Haven-1, which is envisioned as the first commercial space station and plans to begin operations by 2026.
McCaleb, who amassed a multi-billion dollar fortune through transactions involving XRP, is anticipated to be the primary source of financial support for this ambitious project.
Max Haot, the Chief Executive Officer of Vast Space, clarified that Haven-1 is being developed to serve professional demands rather than recreational tourism.
McCaleb Uses XRP Gains to Finance Commercial Space Station
The space station’s design prioritizes the establishment of an optimal setting for productivity, effective collaboration among teams, astronaut security, and efficient communication systems.
It is intended to accommodate government-sponsored astronauts in addition to privately backed missions that are geared towards undertaking significant research and operational activities while in orbit.
McCaleb underscored the vital importance of cultivating broader public endorsement for the notion of human expansion beyond Earth’s boundaries and pointed out the limited number of individuals willing to assume risks of this magnitude.
Public sentiment within the XRP community regarding McCaleb’s move into space exploration is diverse and somewhat polarized.
He also noted that he never exerted pressure on individuals to migrate to the Stellar Lumens network, despite offering it as an alternative.
Ripple’s Larsen Praises Vast Space as Exemplar of American Innovation
In a social media post on X, McCaleb stated, “I didn’t do that at all. I told the Ripple community I was leaving Ripple and no longer believed in the project. I did that before I sold my XRP… The intent was to let people front-run me.”
In contrast to certain segments of community disapproval, Chris Larsen, another co-founder of Ripple, has publicly expressed his backing for the space initiative led by Vast Space.
He lauded Vast Space as a prime illustration of American entrepreneurial innovation and communicated his optimistic outlook for the project’s eventual triumphs.
Larsen suggests that ventures exhibiting such audacious ambition are emblematic of a pioneering spirit historically characteristic of the United States.
