A statue of Satoshi Nakamoto has been unveiled by Tether in partnership with the City of Lugano.
The statue presentation occurred during the third annual Plan ₿ forum in Lugano, as detailed in an announcement on Oct. 25.
Plan ₿ is a collaborative initiative between the City of Lugano and USDT issuer Tether, with the objective of encouraging the adoption of blockchain technology and Bitcoin in the city.
According to Tether’s news release, the Satoshi Nakamoto statue is located at the Villa Ciani in Lugano and is intended to showcase the BTC creator’s innovation and enigma. This statue is a tribute to Satoshi’s vision and legacy.
The statue is designed to emphasize Satoshi’s enigma by progressively dissolving from view as one’s perspective shifts, a technique that capitalizes on perception. The design is a representation of “Satoshi’s withdrawal from the public eye.”
“The statue of Satoshi Nakamoto serves as a testament to the revolutionary influence of Bitcoin and the concept of decentralization. Satoshi’s decision to relinquish control and allow the community to take the lead exemplifies the genuine substance of decentralization,” according to Paolo Ardoino, the CEO of Tether.
Michele Foletti, the Mayor of Lugano, contends that the statue serves a purpose beyond commemorating Satoshi’s legacy.
Foletti observed that Lugano is swiftly becoming a prominent center for digital innovation, and this statue not only pays tribute to Satoshi Nakamoto but also exemplifies the forward-thinking ethos that propels our city.
A few weeks have passed since an HBO documentary purportedly revealed the identity of the Bitcoin creator, when the statue disappeared. However, the individual whom HBO Doc appears to have identified as the Satoshi Nakamoto who disappeared from public life all these years has publicly denied that he is Satoshi.
Peter Todd, an early developer of Bitcoin and pioneer cryptographer, has even acknowledged that the documentary has compelled him to retreat due to safety concerns.
