The initial round for Proof of Play brought in $33 million from investors including a16z crypto, Anchorage Digital, and Naval Ravikant.
The $33 million initial round for the blockchain game business founded by FarmVille co-creator Amitt Mahajan included participation from prominent investors such as a16z crypto, Anchorage Digital, and Naval Ravikant.
The seed round was co-led by Greenoaks and a16z. Besides Ravikant, who made early bets in Uber and Twitter, the announcement named Balaji Srinivasan, Twitch co-founders Justin Kan and Emmett Shear, Mercury, Firebase, Zynga, and Alchemy as investors in the round.
“More than a billion hours of playing, innovation, and investment were wasted when [FarmVille] went down in 2020,” Mahajan added. When I realized this, I knew I had to figure out how to develop games that would stand the test of time.”
Proof of Play claims that with over 300 million players, FarmVille is the most popular game in Facebook’s history. Mahajan founded Toro, which was bought by Google, and established FarmVille and worked as an executive at Zynga.
