Following the LIBRA controversy, Vitalik Buterin supports Argentina’s crypto community by proposing Devconnect in the nation while remaining wary of political meme currencies.

Following the LIBRA affair, Vitalik Buterin expressed significant support for Argentina‘s crypto community by offering that the country host Devconnect. President Javier Milei enthusiastically responded to his suggestion, although Buterin’s position on the larger topic is unclear.

The Ethereum co-founder has long hailed Argentina’s growing crypto industry, seeing it as an example of how digital assets enable true economic independence rather than merely speculative trading. Despite the LIBRA aftermath, Buterin remains hopeful, believing that the country’s blockchain and crypto innovation should continue. He added that incidents like this show the importance of adequate education in the field.

Buterin’s suggestion to conduct Devconnect, an event that brings together independent Ethereum developers, was aimed at Argentina’s cryptocurrency builders. When he tagged Milei in his tweet, the president reacted warmly, saying it would be an honor for Argentina to host the event and a fantastic chance for the country.

Despite this interaction, Buterin’s feelings toward Milei and LIBRA remain ambiguous. Recently, he openly denounced political meme coins, calling them “vehicles for endless political bribery.” His comments were directed at many tokens, including the TRUMP coin, and are consistent with worries about the LIBRA affair, in which leaked texts indicate probable misbehavior.

Milei’s statement avoided criticizing LIBRA and instead emphasized Buterin’s admiration for Argentine devs. He recognized the brilliance in the country’s Ethereum community, bolstering the notion that Argentina might play a larger role in the blockchain industry.

While Buterin’s words underscore Argentina’s potential, they do not necessarily show support for Milei or his government. His opposition of political coins remains unwavering, and he has not recanted his warnings about their dangers.

Regardless, Milei’s support might aid in the establishment of Devconnect, perhaps allowing Argentina to host this big event. However, it is unclear whether Buterin’s engagement with Milei represents a broader relationship or merely a mutual respect for the country’s crypto sector.

What is obvious is that Buterin’s faith in Argentina’s blockchain community remains strong. Despite the controversies surrounding LIBRA, he believes Argentina will play an important role in the development of cryptocurrency.
