Internal conflict develops at DefiLlama as ‘rogue’ workers oppose token idea

A civil war has broken out amongst workers at DefiLlama over the future of the data firm.

0xngmi, a pseudonymous DefiLlama employee, forked the blockchain data platform after accusing the company’s creators of creating an unsupported coin.

“There is a continuous effort to create a token that does not represent us,” 0xngmi tweeted, confirming on-chain that their account had not been compromised. “We do not want to be connected to it.”

Yesterday, the DeFi platform hinted on Twitter at a token airdrop after celebrating its aggregator platform reaching $5 billion in volume. According to two DefiLlama contributors on Twitter, launching the token was against the preferences of the majority of the team. 0xngmi added that the person requesting the token controlled the website and the Twitter account.

“To make a long story short, someone was preparing to issue an LLAMA coin without the agreement of a single member of the DeFiLlama team,” tweeted Tendeeno, a contributor to Llama Corp. projects.

0xngmi is a key contributor to DefiLlama’s Github app. After the push for a token, many additional key code contributors to the Github source have also shared 0xngmi’s statement on switching to the new platform.

Llama Corp., the parent company of DefiLlama, has disputed that a hostile acquisition is in progress, stating that 0xngmi is acting independently.

“Llama Corporation will continue to operate DefiLlama as it has for the previous three years,” the firm told The Block in a statement. “0xngmi’s acts are regretful. We want to reach a private and peaceful resolution.”

Moreover, DefiLlama’s intern and Telegram account refers to 0xngmi and other team members as having “gone rogue.”

A DefiLlama Round Up Telegram channel statement said, “They are aggressively attempting to acquire DefiLlama’s intellectual property and community while falsely claiming that the real owner is conducting a hostile takeover.”

Charlie Watkins and Ben Hauser, who maintain modest profiles, co-founded DefiLlama. The majority of the company’s employees keep anonymity. As the business recently created the news website DLNews, further information about the founders was disclosed. The forked platform of 0xngmi is presently hosted at Llama.fi.
