Vivek Ramaswamy announced on X that he was resigning from the Department of Government Efficiency and was “assured that Elon and the team will be successful in streamlining government.”

According to reports, Vivek Ramaswamy, a former presidential candidate and entrepreneur, will no longer serve as a co-leader of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) with Elon Musk. He is instead planning to pursue a bid for governor of Ohio.

Ramaswamy expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the genesis of DOGE in a post on January 20 on X. “I am certain that Elon and the team will be successful in their efforts to streamline governance.”

CBS News and The New York Times were among the US media outlets that reported that Ramaswamy, a business leader and author, would shortly announce his candidacy for governor of Ohio. However, he did not provide any additional information regarding his future plans.

While reaffirming his support for President Donald Trump, Ramaswamy stated that he would “have more to say very shortly.”

“Vivek Ramaswamy was instrumental in the development of DOGE.” Based on the structure that we announced today, he intends to run for elected office shortly, necessitating his continued absence from DOGE,” stated DOGE spokesperson Anna Kelly to the Associated Press.

In January 2027, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine will conclude his second and legally conclusive term. On January 18, Ramaswamy re-shared an X post from a parody account that featured this likeness. The post announced that Ramaswamy was running for governor of Ohio. The pro-crypto Republican commented that it was not a terrible notion.

In recent days, Musk communicated his desire to remove Ramaswamy from DOGE, according to Politico. A Republican strategist who is associated with Trump’s advisers stated to Politico that Ramaswamy “torched through the bridges and he ultimately burned Elon.” “Everyone desires his departure from Mar-a-Lago and Washington, D.C.”

Part of the motivation for the transition was Ramaswamy’s critique of American culture. He wrote a post on X in December, asserting that the hiring of foreign workers by tech companies is partially due to a worldview that has “venerated mediocrity over excellence.”

The advisory organization, which is now exclusively led by Musk and is named after his preferred cryptocurrency Dogecoin, was officially established through one of the numerous executive orders that Trump signed on his first day in office.

DOGE is already facing legal challenges from consumer advocacy organization Public Citizen and other nonprofit organizations shortly after Trump assumed office.

The petitions contend that DOGE is in violation of the Federal Advisory Committee Act by permitting private individuals to make government decisions without the requisite transparency and oversight.

Doge, which was announced by Trump shortly after his electoral victory in November, is intended to reduce federal expenditure by means of budget cuts and widespread firings.
