Social Platform Under Development by OpenAI Firm

OpenAI is developing its social network, aiming to compete with platforms like Elon Musk’s X.

This development follows the launch of OpenAI’s GPT-4.1 series, which includes GPT-4.1 mini and GPT-4.1 nano models.

Prototype Features ChatGPT Image Feed, External Feedback Sought

The Verge reported on Tuesday, based on multiple sources, that OpenAI is developing a social network to rival X.

These sources stated that a prototype exists with a feed focused on ChatGPT’s image generation features.

CEO Sam Altman is reportedly seeking external feedback on the project.

It is currently unclear if the social network will be a separate app or integrated into ChatGPT, which was the most downloaded global app last month.

Launch Follows Musk Tension, Competes with Meta

This potential launch follows recent tension between Altman and Elon Musk.

After Musk’s $97.4 billion offer to buy OpenAI in February, Altman responded by suggesting OpenAI would buy Twitter for $9.74 billion.

This move also places OpenAI in competition with Meta, which is also developing a social feed for its AI assistant app.

Altman’s previous comment “OK, maybe we’ll do a social app” on X followed news of Meta’s ChatGPT competitor.

Real-time Data for AI Training a Key Motivation

A social platform would provide OpenAI with its real-time data for training AI models.

This is similar to how X powers Musk’s Grok, and Meta uses user data for Llama.

A source from another AI lab stated that “The Grok integration with X has made everyone jealous,” particularly noting how “people create viral tweets by getting them to say something stupid.”

Project in Early Development, Signifies Expansion

The project remains in the early stages. Its development indicates OpenAI’s expansion plans and growth expectations.
