The Cardano Foundation recently announced that it had regained control of its official X (previously Twitter) account in response to an unauthorized access incident in a tweet.

The Cardano Foundation addressed the issue and assured its community that measures are being implemented to reduce future risks in a statement that was distributed via X. The foundation has also confirmed that regular posting will now resume.

On December 8, a malevolent actor compromised the X account of the Cardano Foundation. The intruder fraudulently asserted that the Cardano Foundation would cease to support ADA and promoted a forged “ADAsol” token. Additionally, the intruder disseminated a false SEC lawsuit notice.

The unauthorized access took place between 1:00 p.m. CET on December 8 and 5:00 p.m. CET on December 12. During this period, the account was employed to publish content that was unfounded and did not align with the Cardano Foundation’s views or endorsements.

The Cardano community promptly issued an urgent alert in response to the incident, informing others that the Cardano Foundation account had been compromised. The alert also stated that there was no SEC litigation, token fire, or “ADASol” bridge. Additionally, they were advised that there will be no direct messages from Cardano Foundation team members regarding requests.

Additionally, the Cardano Foundation team promptly eliminated the fraudulent posts. The ADAsol hoax post and the subsequent notice regarding a potential SEC lawsuit were removed in order to restore the compromised account.

The Cardano Foundation provided the Cardano community with assurance that this incident did not impact any of its other systems.

The Cardano Foundation conveyed its appreciation to those who promptly informed them of the matter. The Cardano community and the broader network of contacts and colleagues were particularly acknowledged for their invaluable support during this difficult period.

A comprehensive investigation is currently in progress to identify the attacker(s), ascertain the primary cause of the intrusion, and implement measures to prevent future occurrences, as indicated in the tweet.

The Cardano Foundation, a Swiss not-for-profit organization, is steadfast in its dedication to the Cardano ecosystem’s empowerment and the adoption of Cardano as routine activity on X resumes.
