The Ordinals protocol will allow former US president and current presidential contender Donald Trump to extend the reach of his non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to the Bitcoin network.
As to the CollecTTrumpCards account on the microblogging site X (formerly known as Twitter), the new set is unique to the first 200 purchasers of the “Mugshot Edition” that was released at the end of last year and has a total of 200 NFTs.
There are presently 99 of these “Mugshot Edition” NFTs available for purchase, and each one costs $99 (paid for using Wrapped Ether, or WETH).
Ordinals, as they pertain to Bitcoin, are a relatively new feature that enables the imprinting of distinct, non-fungible data onto distinct satoshis, the smallest unit of Bitcoin.
In this model, each Satoshi is treated as a unique digital asset, similar to non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on different blockchains. The ability to imprint photos, text, or other data on each satoshi makes them collectible and individually recognizable.
This company has made it clear that all of these NFTs, including the “Mugshot Edition,” are for collectors only. They should not be seen as political endorsements or investment vehicles. Members of Magic Eden on Bitcoin will have the opportunity to collect their Ordinals inscriptions at a later time, and trade of Mugshot NFTs will not resume until December 31, 2024.
Including a snapshot from his arrest in late August, the “Mugshot Edition” showcases a distinctive theme based on pivotal periods in Trump’s life and career. Fans may take part in unique events by purchasing the collection; for example, those who purchase 47 cards will be entered to win a supper at Mar-a-Lago with Trump and a replica of the suit he wore when he was arrested. Perhaps even Trump’s autograph appears on a few NFTs in this set.
Trump has already released two NFT albums, and they were both huge financial successes. According to a research by the Washington-based legal advocacy organization Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics, Trump accumulated $5 million worth of Ethereum, mostly from these NFT transactions.
