Donald Trump plans to release a cryptocurrency game that allows users to acquire virtual properties and earn in-game digital currency.

Fortune reported this news on Tuesday, noting that the game is inspired by the board game Monopoly.

Trump’s foray into this digital game represents his ongoing expansion in the cryptocurrency sector.

Development Led by Longtime Associate, Monopoly Link Downplayed

Sources familiar with the project state that Bill Zanker is developing the game.

Zanker, described as a longtime associate of Trump, previously assisted in launching Trump’s NFT collections and the Official Trump meme coin.

These sources informed Fortune that the game will have a Monopoly feel, incorporating a play-to-earn model.

Kevin Mercuri, spokesperson for Zanker, contradicted the Monopoly comparisons but confirmed a game release is scheduled for this month.

Hasbro Denies Licensing Agreement for Trump Crypto Venture

Hasbro, the current owner of Monopoly, has verified that they have not licensed their Monopoly intellectual property to any Trump-affiliated organization for a crypto venture.

Hasbro, which gained ownership of Monopoly through acquiring Parker Brothers, clarified its position.

Furthermore, reports indicate that in May 2024, Zanker’s attempt to secure rights for “Trump: The Game,” a 1989 Trump-branded Monopoly edition, failed because the rights were unavailable.

Trump’s History with Monopoly Influenced Game Development

President Trump has a known affinity for Monopoly. Mary Trump, his mother, mentioned in a past interview that Monopoly was among his preferred childhood games, along with block building.

This early connection to Monopoly influenced his business initiatives.

In 1989, Trump launched “Trump: The Game,” a board game modeled on Monopoly, drawing inspiration from his career and his book “The Art of the Deal.”

Trademark Filing Suggests Metaverse Ecosystem and NFT Integration

This development follows the Trump Organization’s trademark application with the US Patent and Trademark Office in late February.

The filing pertains to a digital ecosystem within the metaverse and NFT space.

This ecosystem is planned to include virtual TRUMP-branded clothing and TRUMP-themed virtual restaurants, along with exclusive NFT-verified content.

The trademark filing signals broader efforts to establish a presence in digital assets and expand crypto ventures, indicating potential future launches of these virtual services.

Game to Expand Trump’s Cryptocurrency Portfolio

The forthcoming game will add to Trump’s growing cryptocurrency portfolio, which already encompasses NFT collections and a meme coin launch.

Trump’s family is also involved in various cryptocurrency ventures, including World Liberty Financial, a DeFi project, and American Bitcoin, a mining operation.

World Liberty Financial intends to launch a stablecoin soon and later move into the real-world asset market.
