Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives are urging the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to look into crypto mining operations within this country’s borders.

To guarantee that bitcoin mining operations are not breaching key environmental regulations such as Clean Air Act or Clean Water Act, a letter was submitted to EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan on Wednesday. “

“Serious concerns” have been raised by lawmakers about the pollution and “outsized” emissions of greenhouse gases that crypto mining activities are causing around the nation.

Request that the EPA examine the environmental compliance of ‘Proof of Work’ (PoW) mining sites and consult with local communities when considering licences. To that end, we’d want the EPA to look into and remedy any problems these current PoW facilities are producing, such as how they dispose of electronic trash and how they minimise noise pollution.

As Chair of the Natural Resources Subcommittee, Jared Huffman (D-California) is leading the campaign. Democratic powerhouses Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), as well as crypto sceptic Brad Sherman, all signed on to the letter (D-California).
