The former head of YouTube Gaming thinks that gamers will ultimately adopt Web3 despite the NFT criticism.

Several crypto developers see video games as the killer application for Web3, citing perceived advantages such as ownership of in-game assets as NFTs, the possibility for interoperability across games, and the opportunity to profit from the increased token and NFT prices. But, most gamers are not convinced.

The prominent NFT gaming initiatives of companies like Ubisoft, Square Enix, and GSC Game World have been criticized by vociferous video game gamers. Critics include poor gameplay in early NFT games, crypto industry frauds, and dropping asset values, as well as the notion that game publishers would utilize NFTs to take additional funds from gamers.

After a distinguished career in esports and video games, notably, as head of YouTube Gaming, Ryan Wyatt, president of Polygon Labs, entered the crypto sector in early 2022. Wyatt argued on a recent episode of Decrypt’s gm podcast that gamers will lead the drive for Web3 adoption.

Wyatt, who heads the business team at Polygon, an Ethereum sidechain network, said, “It’s just a matter of time.” “By the time we see widespread acceptance of Web3 games, which I believe will occur in a few years, the friction that you see now will have mostly disappeared. Not exactly, but gamers are the most tech-savvy demographic, therefore they will be the first adopters.
