WLD will be used by Worldcoin instead of USDC to pay orb operators

The Worldcoin Foundation has stated on its blog that orb operators, who help new users of the Worldcoin network by scanning their eyes, would be compensated in WLD tokens rather than USDC stablecoins.

The number of active WLD tokens has surpassed 1 percent of the total 10 billion tokens, according to data provided by the Foundation. About 100 million WLD were loaned to market makers, while another 34 million were granted to users and orb operators, for a total of about 134 million WLD issued.

Worldcoin said on October 24 that the loan agreements will be extended until December 15 with a decreased amount of 75 million tokens; the market makers would repay or, alternatively, acquire some or all of the remaining 25 million tokens as part of the deal.

After an early period of exaggerated acceptance, Worldcoin’s token awards seem to be expanding slowly over time. This is despite “operational challenges” mentioned by Sam Altman, co-founder of Worldcoin and best known for launching OpenAI, the firm behind ChatGPT.
